Annual report on the activities of UVU in 2013

Dear Mr. Doctor!
On behalf of the Senate, teachers and students of the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, I express my deep gratitude to you and the members of the Board of the UVU Foundation in New York for the material and moral support of our University by the Foundation of the Ukrainian Free University in New York. Thanks to this support, the University is able to fruitfully develop its pedagogical and scientific activities, provide scholarships to the best students, and carry out social and cultural activities in Munich.

Allow me to briefly familiarize you with the activities of the University in 2013.

 

I. Students, courses, teachers, educational programs and projects

During 2013, in accordance with the vision and concept of the development of UVU, the programs of master's and doctoral studies were improved, including the introduction of new courses into the curriculum, and the number of professors and teaching staff was increased.

1.1. Statistics

There are currently 150 students studying at three faculties of UVU (faculty of political and economic sciences, philosophy and Ukrainian studies).

In 2013, 54 applications to study at UVU were submitted.

Due to the low level of grades, 6 students were rejected. 10 students were unable to start their studies due to visa refusal or other reasons.

In 2013, as of December 19, 40 new students were admitted to master's and doctoral studies at UVU, namely:

– for the Faculty of Ukrainian Studies and the Faculty of Philosophy: 20

- to the Faculty of State and Economic Sciences: 20

For comparison, in previous years, the following were accepted for study:

2010 - 18 students

2011 – 32 students

2012 – 38 students

2013 – 40 students (as of December 19, 2013)

In 2013, 8 students were exmatriculated due to completion or termination of studies.

Master of the UVU

1.2. Main seminars and pro-seminars

In 2013, a number of main seminars and pro-seminars were held for master's and doctoral students of UVU in accordance with the curricula. In particular: economics and management, law, political science and international relations, philosophy (Ukrainian and German), comparative literature, pedagogy, psychology, history of Ukraine, Ukrainian linguistics, Ukrainian literature, history of Ukrainian music, stylistics and culture of speech, theory and practice of methodology scientific research, methodological aspects of humanitarian scientific research.

1.3. Independent individual studies

During the year, independent individual studies were also conducted for UVU students in the following disciplines: Ukrainian literature, comparative literature, economics, pedagogy, psychology, history of Ukraine, philosophy, musicology, political science, organization and activity of enterprises, political economy, Ukrainian language, jurisprudence, etc.

1.4. Teaching German and English

During 1913, UVU students had the opportunity to study and improve their knowledge of the German and English languages during classes at elementary level German and English language classes, higher level German and English language classes, and German and English language classes for professional communication.

1.5. Teachers

Throughout 2013, lecturers from Ukraine, Germany, the USA, Austria, and Belgium gave lectures at UVU. In particular:

1.6. The Council of Master's and Doctoral Students of UVU

The UVU RMD is a body of student self-government, which is elected from among the students of UVU and operates in accordance with the Higher Education Act of Bavaria.

In 2013, the UVU Council of Master's and Doctoral Students provided comprehensive assistance to UVU students. Its activities extended, in particular, to the following areas:

– information support and individual recommendations regarding the educational process at UVU;

- organization of students' free time;

- coverage and reporting to the European community of the civic position of UVU students regarding current social and political processes in Ukraine, aimed at improving the image of Ukraine;

- establishing contacts with employers;

- formation of a positive image of the university.

During the year, scholarships were awarded to the best students participating in the life of the university, namely:

1.7. Information about work on attracting new students to UVU

In order to spread information about UVU, as well as to attract new students, the following measures were implemented in 2013:

1. A new page of the university has been developed on the Internet and on Facebook, which provides up-to-date information about study opportunities, as well as events and activities taking place at UVU.

2. Advertising materials of the Ukrainian Free University in electronic and paper versions (posters and flyers) have been developed, which inform about the study opportunities at UVU and are systematically distributed on the Internet, educational institutions of Ukraine, Ukrainian institutions in Germany, as well as at events organized by UVU.

3. A presentation of the Ukrainian Free University was held at Lviv Polytechnic with online broadcast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPtDuaxr_lk), as well as in some other universities of Ukraine.

4. A number of interviews were conducted with television channels and print media, and a number of articles about UVU were published.

5. The contest "Raffle of three sets of books from UVU" was held, with the help of which it was possible to attract about 500 supporters of UVU on Facebook.

6. The next step is the creation of a club of UVU graduates, former teachers and supporters of UVU, representatives of UVU in educational institutions of Ukraine, establishment of cooperation with embassies and consular missions of Ukraine in EU countries with the aim of spreading information about UVU among representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.

7. Search for grants for scholarships for gifted students from Ukraine.

 

II. Scientific work

During the year, the University actively developed scientific activities, initiated a number of scientific projects with scientific institutions in Ukraine, Western Europe and North America.

2.1. Statistics

In 2013, UVU published 5 editions, 2 editions in print; The university was a co-organizer of 2 international scientific conferences, held 5 meetings of scientific seminars, concluded 4 agreements and memoranda of cooperation, within the framework of which a number of educational, scientific and educational projects were initiated

III. UVU Library

In order to modernize the UVU library, a computer system was installed in 2013, through which students, teachers of UVU, as well as researchers from all over the world will have access to the library catalog and archival materials of the university. UVU teachers will be able to post their materials for students in electronic form. After the installation of this computer system, specialists from Kyiv registered more than 2,800 books and magazines in September-December 2013.

During this year, the UVU library was replenished with almost 500 new arrivals, actively worked with a number of institutions in establishing mutual exchange of new and duplicate literature. In particular, this year UVU handed over a set of doublet editions to the Diaspora Literature Library of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University, the International Institute of Education and Relations with the Diaspora, and the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv.

 

IV. Archive of UVU

Work on the implementation of the international project "The phenomenon of ethnic self-identification and survival in the context of post-war Europe: The unique cultural heritage of the Ukrainian emigration in the archive of the Ukrainian Free University in Munich" continued. The camp archives of Germany, which are stored at the University of Warsaw, have been processed. Total: 225 folders.

The employees of UVU worked on the implementation of this project, as well as students of UVU, in particular, students of humanities faculties, were involved in this project on a volunteer basis.

The archive and library of UVU provide consultations, references, fulfill the orders of both students and teachers of UVU, as well as scientists from Ukraine, Germany, and other countries of the world.
